Official archives have plenty of photos of historic buildings and official occasions, but the Robe book project is looking for snaps from family albums which help to capture the ‘everyday’ life of the community and its history, right up to the 1970s.
In particular, at this stage we are looking for photos relating to:
- The commercial fishing industry, such as people working their boats or processing catches, including rendering shark livers during the 1940s, and early blessing of the fleet events;
- Surfing and the early surfing competitions; and other beach activities such as campfires, bbqs, sand castle competitions and beach cricket;
- Horse racing and horses in the Robe area, both historic and the picnic races held in the 1980s.
